Woody Guthrie and Ralph Rinzler
Previously unseen photograph of Woody Guthrie (as far as I know?)
Seems likely that this is Ralph Rinzler visiting Woody at the Hospital he was at when he was ill towards the end of his life. The photograph was sent to my family when Dave Wiseman discovered some shots of him and my Dad playing fiddle and Banjo taken in the 50s. He must have been sent this one by Ralph. I remember going with my Dad to A.L. Lloyd’s memorial concert at the Barbican, meeting Ralph again from years in Nashville and then spending the evening chatting on the stairs of A.L. Lloyd’s house to Charlie Sayles an African American Blues harp player who’d performed that day. he was a really nice guy. http://www.charliesayles.com/home.cfm
Here’s a close up of Guthrie.
